Matamata College made the most of their home course advantage, at the most recent round of the Thames Valley High School Golf Series. Participants from Paeroa, Thames, Hauraki and Matamata made their way to the Matamata Golf Club for Round 3 of the 2016 Series.
The Matamata Girls Team showed that they can match it with the best of them after an impressive 26.5 nett (40 gross) in the 9-Hole ambrose format. Round 2 winners Paeroa College were in second place with a 32.2 nett score for the day, closely followed by the Matamata Boys Team (33) and Thames High School (33.8). A very hotly contested round for the Division Two Teams.
In the overall standings, the race for the 2016 title has heated up. The win from Matamata brings them to only 10 points behind joint leaders Paeroa and defending champions Thames High School. Hauraki Plains High School is 100 points behind but with two rounds to go, anything could happen. The 4th round moves to Te Aroha Golf Club on the 5th August.
In Division One, it was Robson Tarrant making it a clean sweep for Matamata as he posted a nett score of 73 to claim victory in Round 3, and earn some valuable points towards the overall title which will be claimed on September 16th at Hauraki Golf Club. Current leader Keegan Walsh (Hauraki Plains) has 130 points. 40 points clear of following players Robson Tarrant, Korbyn Green and Liam Tansey all with 90 points.
