Waikato and New Zealand representative Nick Coxon has recently sealed victory in the 2015 Stuart Gold Cup at The Grange Golf Club in Auckland.
After finishing runner-up in 2013 and 2014 Nick was looking to go one better in the 2015 event. Or as Nick liked to call it “third time lucky”.
Nick started the event with a 2 under par 68, which was one shot behind opening round leader Joshua Leitch (67), Nick looked for consistency over the next three rounds, posting scores of 1 over par 71, and then posting scores of 69 in rounds 3 and 4. Nick described the event conditions as “pretty windy”.
Nick’s 277 tournament total was 3under par and eight shots better than his nearest rivals Mark Hutson (North Shore), and Joshua Leitch (Maungakiekie) on 285 respectively.
Chris Charlton (Riverside) was next best of the Waikato boys, with a tournament total of 299, good enough for T14th position. Junior representative Jordan Woodall (Cambridge) also played the event, playing consistent golf for a total of 306, Jordan would finish in a tie for 21st.
